Hi friends! Today’s post is all about CBD. I’m sure you’ve heard about CBD, it’s a bit of a hot item in the health world these days. However, there is a lot of misinformation around what exactly CBD is and what it does. I’ve been lucky enough to work a brand that has helped me gain more knowledge of CBD and I want to share it here.
What is CBD?
“CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the Cannabid sativa plant, which is also known as marijuana or help, according to the US National Library of Medicine. It’s a naturally occurring substance that’s used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm. Unlike its cousin, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the major active ingredient in marijuana, CBD is not psychoactive.” *
“CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a unique cannabinoid found in the Hemp plant and is praised for being highly natural and beneficial. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that help our bodies maintain a stable internal environment by interacting with the endocannabinoid system, allowing them to regulate functions that support relief from pain and other debilitating symptoms. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for two major functions: modulating pleasure, energy, and well-being while restoring balance in the face of external stressors. CBD interacts naturally with our bodies without getting you high and also possess antioxidant properties.”*
The source of the CBD determines the effect. CBD sourced from marijuana can have a THC content ranging from 5% – 25% and therefore can only be sold in states that have legalized marijuana. Meanwhile, CBD sourced from hemp can have at most a 0.3% THC content and can be sold legally across the US. (source: Cool Bits)
What Are The Benefits?
The benefits of CBD are fairly long. However, research into the effects of CBD is still limited so a lot of it is still trial and error through usage. The majority of research that has been done suggests that CBD is beneficial for pain management, sleep support and aiding with calming anxiety. “CBD is commonly used to address anxiety, and for patients who suffer through the misery of insomnia, studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep. CBD may offer an option for treating different types of chronic pain.” *
Your Questions
I posted a question box on Instagram so that everyone could ask away about CBD. You all have essentially the same three questions. Cool Bits was so kind as to give really great answers to these questions!
Q: Will CBD make you high?
A: CBD sourced from hemp does not make a person feel high. Feelings most often reported include being less anxious or calmer.
Q: Why CBD and not marijuana (where legal)?
A: This is a personal choice. CBD is found in both the marijuana and hemp plant. People who want to “get high” and have the “euphoric” feeling will use CBD sourced from marijuana. People who don’t like getting high, will choose CBD derived from hemp.
Q: Does Cool Bits have THC and if not then how?
A: CBD in Cool Bits is sourced from hemp. Technically the mints may have a THC content up to 0.3%. Practically Cool Bits contain no THC and will not get the consumer high.
My Favorite CBD
I’ve tried several CBD brands in the past two years and landed on one that I absolutely love. My personal favorite brand is Cool Bits. For me, the dosage and delivery are the best. I’ve tried oils under my tongue but they cause a lot of digestive distress for me. I’ve tried pills but just didn’t think they were strong enough. The hard lozenge/mint Cool Bits makes tastes great and doesn’t upset my stomach at all. If you have any GI issues, take into account that any oil may cause upset. Now, please do remember that this just my experience with it and everyone has a different experience.
In terms of dosage, I take two to three mints daily. I started with one in the evening and have added one or two more later in the evening. As someone who struggles with anxiety and clinical OCD, this has been amazing for me. It helps keep my anxiety at bay and keep me at a more level state throughout the day. I think it helps a lot with internal inflammation, which often shows up in the form of joint pain and rosacea for me. When I am consistent about taking a daily dose of Cool Bits, both of these feel tempered.
About Cool Bits
Cool Bits was founded by two women after watching their loved ones battle cancer. The brand was developed as they sought to find an alternative path to wellness. Their formula is all natural and sugar free. They are available in lemon, peppermint and cherry flavor. All of the CBD comes in a mint formula – a solid. I personally love, love, love the lemon and cherry and feel like I’m having a sweet treat when I take them. Before trying Cool Bits, I was taking oil under my tongue, so trust me when I say the mints taste about one thousand times better than any oil I have taken.
Now that we know a little more about CBD, please remember that I am not a medical professional. Ask your doctor before starting any CBD! Also, CBD affects people very differently, so no two experiences may be the same. Let me know if you have or are taken CBD and what you think!
