Winter Outerwear Staples

Happy Monday friends!  I’m nursing a hoagie hangover from last night’s Super Bowl.  I’m still in total shock over my home town’s historic win!  My poor Boston loving husband was so gracious about it, so I am going to enjoy every moment of this today, too!  Now, let’s chat Winter Outerwear Staples.

That darn groundhog saw his shadow, so that means we have six more weeks of Winter ahead for us.  When we decided to move to Atlanta, we definitely had visions of mild, jacket-free Winter weather.  We were a little off with that and I have been scrambling to restock my cold weather gear that I donated pre-move.

In general, I spend a little more on my outerwear because I want it to last longer.  I don’t buy new coats, vest, boots, etc. every year.  I will typically buy one new piece (i.e. a parka or new scarf) each year.

I’m also picky about my retailers.  I personally prefer Nordstrom for their North Face selection, Back Country for Patagonia, Zappos for boots and J.Crew for dressier pieces.  I usually snap up a couple of inexpensive, trendier vest from Old Navy every year too.  However, I find that they don’t wash or wear well, so they typically only last me that year.

This is what I try to have in my permanent rotation, in neutral colors usually:

  • Warm puffy coat
  • Dressy coat
  • Waterproof boots
  • Heavy Scarf
  • Thick knit hat

You need all of the downy fills in Boston! A good puffer is my personal favorite. Hope you’re staying warm sweets!

This winter has been rough with a capital woof between the much colder than usual temps and all the sickness going around. The winters in the south are usually much more mild than this, so hopefully next year will be better. I’ve been loving my dress coat and fun beanies this year which almost never get use <3

This is the sickest Winter ever, ever. 2/3 of my kids are currently down for the count. Lots of hope for a warmer, healthier Winter next year!
