My Favorite Corner

Happy Monday lovelies and welcome to my favorite corner in our home!  It’s the perfect cozy little spot to curl up with a hot coffee, and quite honestly, the most clean area in our house usually.  It’s actually a very-high traffic area that needs to combine function with style.  Style isn’t a necessity, but more of a priority for me personality.  Trust me, my kids could care less about what it looks like.  As long as they know where an iPad charger is, they are good to go. 🤣

When we first bought this house, these shelves were open floor to ceiling.  It definitely worked, but I wasn’t totally sold on it.  We were able to have some door fronts made for a reasonable price, and voila, we have custom built in’s surrounding our fireplace!  The cabinets are perfect for storing any items we don’t want little hands touching (vases, essential oils, etc.)  They’re also extremely handy for shoving things away in a hurry before hosting company.  Not that I’m saying I do that or anything {wink, wink.}  If you’re looking for custom cabinetry at a reasonable price, I suggest talking to a local paint store or house painter.

Now, let’s chat about this chair.  Josh had ordered it for his office and I mistakenly thought he’d gotten a different color.  It was too dark and masculine of a gray for my taste.  But I’ve grown to love it and the touch of contrast it brings to such a predominantly light space.  The kids are always cozying up in it, and I spend my fair share of time in its extra wide seat, usually working on my laptop.  I’m not sure that Josh will be getting this back should he need it in the future.

My Style Tips

The rule of three’s is the most important rule to remember when it comes to styling a shelf area.  I’ve seen inverted triangles as a suggestion, as well.  I personally like to incorporate three’s but not on every shelf.  Break it up with smaller items – three of them – on one shelf and another shelf with two larger ones.  It’s visually appealing and a great way to use what you have on hand.  Don’t get too stuck in the rules and mix and match them to find what is most visually appealing to your eye.

Functionality Tips

Baskets are your hero item for functionality.  They’re perfect for organization and storage, and if in the right colors, will help fill space and add color.  I’ve stuck with grays for this space because I’m majorly into neutrals right now.  But you could easily pull beiges or even a fun pop of contrast with different colored baskets or a couple of cans of spray paint.  {Spray is your best friend!}  One basket holds remotes, another charging cords, and the last one has diapers and wipes.  All are things we use multiple times a day, every single day.  And they’re nicely hidden, while being easily within reach.

I’ll be very honest, my house is basically a total disaster on any given day.  But this one little spot is my focus point that I need I can get organized and presentable quickly and easily.  Sometimes focusing on the small spaces can really help the big picture. Thank you so much for reading and letting me share this little space with you!  I’m going to pour another cup of coffee and cozy up here to get some work done.  Hope that your week is off to a great start babes!
