Is it just Georgia or is Spring incredibly fickle everywhere this year? One day its in the 80’s, and the next is pouring rain and 50 degrees. My kids are confused, my hair is confused, and my closet is majorly confused. Typically, by the end of April, my sweaters are tucked on the highest shelf, out of sight. My boots are stowed away and our heavy Winter coats are in storage. This year, they’re all still in their spots – and being used.
So, let’s use this crummy season (can we even call it that?) and chat about how to layer for crazy Spring weather. Because this is the craziest of Spring weather I can remember in a long time. And all of the layers are necessary on a daily basis right now.
When I’m not wearing workout leggings, I pull on a pair of jeans for this weather. I’m a shorts girl through and through, but a great pair of boyfriend jeans is the perfect transitional bottom piece. It’s loose enough to be breezy in warmer temps, and has coverage for cooler weather. They pair just as well with flats as they do with sneakers or sandals. I love a distressed pair for a more casual vibe, and a cuff adds a little edge.
I’m sure I’m in the minority here, but I’m a tank top fan over tee shirts any day. I think it’s just personal preference in that I don’t like how my arms feel when I have something layered over a tee (a jacket or sweater.) A tank is the perfect compliment to longer bottoms when the temperatures rise, and when layered, can be a great way to go from a day to night look. I like to go for a swingier one in this weather so that I’m not feeling too claustrophobic in my layers and I don’t get too warm when the temperatures rise. You can get totally trendy and layer a tight fighting long sleeve tee under a fun tank, too.
A lightweight jacket is a necessity in Spring and will work just as well in Fall. I love a moto style because it gives any look a little edge, and looks great tossed across your shoulders on a Summer evening. It’s a great way to add structure and shape to a swingier top or add a little space over a tighter fitting shirt. Just make sure it isn’t too heavy – if you take it off you want to be able to carry it easily!
When the temps rise, I love a cross body bag, but I am not a fan of them with jackets. My suggestion is to go for a bag that can work as both a cross body and either a tote or shoulder bag. You’re able to change how you carry your bag based on what layers you have on top at the time. This is also the perfect weather for a great mule. You get enough coverage for your feet like a flat, but a little openness like a sandal. And a big yes to fun earrings! I’m all about statement earrings right now, and they work with any look.
