Today I wanted to go a little off topic and chat with you gals about my favorite essential oils.  Because I am so hooked on them and I spend so much time talking about them in real life, I figured it was time to share on here.  I know not everyone is into oils, so I promise I am not offended if this doesn’t interest you.  For a long time, I wasn’t either.  Now, I use them daily, in multiple ways.

I actually became aware of oils a few years ago when I was researching ways to get my kids to sleep. Lavender was the first oil I purchased, and we used it every night on the kids before bed.  I knew zero about oils at the time and stopped using it without a thought.

Flash forward to this Summer.  I was nine months pregnant and getting a pedicure, casually chatting with the woman sitting next to me.  She was a clinical research nurse who had an extensive medical background with children.  We were chatting about Avery, and she recommended that I look into essential oils.  This was coming from a medical professional, so I really took it to heart.  She recommended Young Living Essential Oils to me, going so far as to write information down for me.

I immediately ordered a Starter Kit and never looked back.  Flash forward a few months, and we use oils multiple times a day in our home.   I could ramble on and on about why I love oils and how I use them, but I am going to stick to my favorites today.

My Favorite Essential Oils

Cedarwood // This is perfect for all things cozy.  It has a muskier scent to it, and makes me feel like I’m snuggled up in a warm blanket and goes into almost every night diffuser blend I use.

Joy // This smells just like the name implies, joyful.  I diffuse this during the day on its own, dab a little on as a perfume and use it on our wool dryer balls.

Lavender //  This is the most top of mind oil for many people.  It was the first oil I ever used, and still one used daily in our house.  We diffuse it nightly, I use it on our dryer balls, in home made cleaner, put a couple of drops in the kids’ baths, and almost every roller blend I make.  Such a great, versatile oil.

Lemon // Another super versatile oil.  I diffuse this often for its cheery scent, on the dryer balls, in house cleaner, etc.

Orange // This smells so good and blends well with just about every other oil.  It’s just as great for refreshing citrus blends as it is for cozy Winter mixes.

Purification // This is great for cleaning mixes or to diffuse in stinky places.  I really, really like this scent personally.

Stress Away // This may be my favorite oil ever.  It smells so good.  I diffuse this daily, day and night.  This is the kids’ favorite as well.  This is diffusing in mine and Avery’s rooms nightly, and in almost every roller ball I make.

Thieves // So good for so much, cozy blends and cleaning.  This is a great, versatile oil.

I have been trying to remove toxins from our home, but I will save that for another post.  Plus, the oils smell so good and give you control over creating your own customs scents.

If you want to chat about oils, I have been researching like crazy and am happy to share any information with you! You can purchase them all here.  Shoot me an email to if you have any questions or want some recommendations!

  1. I’m so glad you shared what oils are your favorite and ways to use them ! That’s where I struggle- so many do’s and don’t with oils and it can get overwhelming. I am slowly getting on the essential oil bandwagon. So many benefits !! Have a wonderful day 🙂

    • I love this pocket reference: It has been one of my biggest sources of knowledge with oils! I may do a post of blends to diffuse too. I was so confused at first, but I feel like I’m starting to get a good sense of things, and that little book has been so helpful!

  2. I LOVE this! I’ve recently gotten super in to essential oils but I don’t really know what scents to use for what and I’ve heard some scents can be toxic to animals so I feel completely lost. These sound amazing, especially that Cedarwood one!

  3. I’m currently obsessed with Joy + peppermint in my office everyday! Loving the Thieves cleaner too, love that I can use it around the baby and not worry about chemicals.

    • I love the Thieves cleaner so much! I just ordered some of the Seedlings line to use with the kids! It’s amazing how your view on these things can change once you have kids!

  4. We LOVE oils too! I need to get Joy because every time I put on regular perfume, I shudder a little bit thinking about all the terrible stuff in it.

    • Same girl, same. The citrus scents all mix really well with Joy or Ylang Ylang (it’s what I predominantly smell in Joy) to make scents. That and Lemon and Grapefruit, so good!
