Holiday Home Tour

Fa, la, la, la, la it’s so close to Christmas, I can practically smell it!  Well, actually I can, but that’s my Christmas Spirit oil in my diffuser. 😉  I wanted to share a Christmas Home Tour today, because I love decorating for this holiday more than any others.  Does decorating for Christmas gives anyone else all of the happy feelings?  I didn’t go all out this year because of baby and not having our house fully unpacked and put together.  Next year folks, next year.

We usually have one main tree that is decorated in white, silver and gold.  Then we have a second tree for all of our collected ornaments.  We skipped the first tree and just put it all on one this year.  It’s packed, but it makes me really happy.  Although, Greyson keeps sneaking ornaments off and taking them to school with him.  I have a feeling I’m going to be finding ornaments hidden throughout the house for the next few months.

My vision for our holiday decor this year was homey.  I think that encompasses all of the traditional decorations and decorating in a way that shows the sentimentality of special pieces gathered over the years.  I am trying to loosen up on my OCD-ness when it comes to to our house and this is a step in that direction.

Budget Friendly Holiday Decorating Tips

My favorite budget-friendly tips for this season include repurposing unused ornaments as vase filler.  We have bowls and vases filled with ornaments in at least four rooms.  Inexpensive ornaments in bowls are so quick, easy and inexpensive and my go-to.

The Dollar Store has a surprising amount of kitschy decorations, including tinsel wreaths.  These are the kind of pieces that my kids love, and they add a little vintage vibe.  I pick tinsel up from there and use it to drape over and around trees in the kids’ play room, or hang as a banner across mirrors and pictures.  I couldn’t get any good pictures of this because our basement lighting is so bad, but it’s what I used to decorate the play area there.

Michael’s always has a ton of fun decorations, and we always add a couple of fun things from there every year.  I stock up on ornaments from there because they have the best deals.  Plus, everything is almost always at least 30% off or more.  There is always a section of mini faux trees that are great for placing around the house or gifting.  Avery has one that she uses to decorate for her American Girl Dolls.  Both she and Greyson have five dollar tinsel trees in their bedrooms in coordinating colors (silver and turquoise) as well.

    • Thanks lady! I love shopping post-Christmas and getting everything on sale! It’s the best time – hope you scored lots of goodies!

    • The more budget-friendly the better for sure! Plus, my kids have a strange tendency to “accidentally” touch a lot of them and break them 😉
