Happy back to school week! It’s not technically back to school for us, but for most people, this is the beginning of the new school year. Our first day was on July 31st, which was the earliest we have ever been! Growing up, the week of Labor Day meant back to school and no matter what, I will always associate Labor Day with it. Something changes in the air and the attitude. Things get crisper, schedules are set, routine becomes the new normal. As much as I love Summer, I also love back to school.
Avery is in third grade and Greyson just started Kindergarten this year. It’s the first time both of them have are in full day school for the first time ever and it is a big change for all of us. Our daily hours are much earlier and these kids are wiped out at the end of every day. I am also constantly amazed at how much I can accomplish while they are at school every day. Plus, I’m the crazy lady counting down the minutes until they get back home every day because I miss them so much.
Avery wants to share more of her favorite things on the space, so we decided that talking about her favorite things she has for school would be a great place to start. And of course, we couldn’t leave Greyson out!
Earbuds – Avery is at the age where she does a lot of school work on the computer. Headphones keep the noise level to just her, plus she needs them for the same reason at school. These are inexpensive and fun!
Hair bands – I buy these for myself but Avery keeps stealing them! They don’t tangle or leave bumps. We both love these!
Overall Dress – Avery saw this in store and had to have it immediately. She wears it all of the time, and I love how she styles it with tanks, tees and long sleeves. It’s so versatile and will pair well with tights for cooler weather.
Glitter Flats – This is our third pair of cat flats in different colors and patterns. I just wish these came in my size! They are SO cute!
Sneakers – Both of my kids love this style of sneaker and we buy them twice a year. This is Avery’s fourth year in a row wearing this style. Tip: I try to snag them during the Nordstrom sale every July.
Backpack – I grabbed this as a surprise for Avery at boutique in New Jersey and it’s become her favorite backpack ever. Her exact style is a little different, but it’s basically all emoji’s and unicorns and donuts, etc. by the same brand. It’s also scented and made of a really soft, but sturdy material. I got her a matching pencil bag and key chain and will definitely be getting her more goodies from this brand.
Hot food container – Avery refuses to buy lunch at school, so finding new things to feed her everyday can be tricky. Luckily, she loves to eat dinner leftovers. This little container keeps anything warm enough until she eats it at lunch and comes in so many adorable patterns. I just throw it in the dishwasher to wash, too! Ours is a few years old and holds up really well.
Earrings – Unicorns are everything right now. Avery cannot get enough and she’s super into dangly earrings because she can change them on her own. These are a major win! We also have them in ballerinas and cats. 😉
Lunchbox – I love soft-sided lunch boxes. They hold more and fit in a backpack so much more easily. Greyson picked this one himself, and I fully approve.
Thermos Bottle – These are our favorite water bottles for kids ever. We have gone through a bunch, and have never tossed any, just lost them. They don’t spill and they keep drinks cold. This goes to school with Greyson every day.
Backpack – This is Greyson’s very independent choice of back pack. It works just fine and cracks me every time I see him climbing off the bus with it on. #minecrafteverything
Tee Shirt – I can’t even tell you how many Captain America tee shirts we have gone through in the last couple of years. This is a staple in Greyson’s wardrobe and I always have at least one in rotation for him.
Sneakers – I told you we love these sneakers! This color was Greyson’s choice during the Nordstrom sale this Summer.
Socks – I can get Greyson excited about any article of clothing as long as one of his favorite characters are on in. Needless to say, Pokemon socks have been a big hit and make it easier for him to get dressed and out the door. Seriously, he refuses to wear anything without a character on it and will put up a big stink about it. Anyone else’s kids do this?
Notebook – I ordered these for Greyson to take to school (a requirement) and he ran off with them for himself. I ordered more and some extra for him to have. He loves writing and coloring in them, and you can pick up a bunch so inexpensively. I remember how much I loved opening up a new one of these at the beginning of every school year!
Headphones – Good kids’ headphones are SO hard to find. I researched like crazy before settling on this pair. Greyson said he likes them, and he hasn’t broken them yet, so I consider that a win!
What are your kids loving for school this year and any other mom must haves? Let me know! -XO
