The Weekend Round Up

This quote really cracks me up because it’s so true for me.  I feel like this has summed up my week perfectly: putting my hair up and getting down to work, with Alexa rocking my tunes.

The kids were off for two days this week, which I love, but it makes getting back into the swing of things for the rest of the week so hard.  You better believe I am thrilled to see this Friday.  Does anyone else have an explosion of kids’ activities and birthday parties starting right now too?  I think I may need to take up residence in Toys ‘R Us soon.

Tropical Green Protein Smoothie

Want to get out a Winter rut in your kitchen?  Then whip up this Tropical Green Protein Smoothie and drink like you’re on vacation!  If you have been reading my blog for a while, then you know I am kind of a smoothie junkie.  I am constantly changing what I put in them and how I make them so that I don’t get into a rut.

I was craving pineapple something bad the other week and was sick of just eating it straight, so I started adding it to smoothies.  Pineapple is definitely a little tricky to add in because the flavor doesn’t always mix well with other flavors and it took a few “yucks!” to find the right combination.  I included coconut oil for flavor and healthy fats plus chia seeds for fiber and to help keep me full.  This is my go-to right now, until I am out of pineapple or the weather warms up.  They go hand in hand, right?

The Easy Little Black Dress

Dress:  Asos // Shoes:  Naly // Bag:  Clare V. // Necklace: Luxe Btqe

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  . . . . . . . . . . . .

Let’s talk about the most essential part of any woman’s closet, the easy little black dress.  But first, happy day two of President’s weekend!  When we were growing up, we most definitely did not get two days off for this holiday, and as a working adult it was rare to get any days off.  Kids have it so good these days!

Back to the subject at hand, black dresses.  We all know a LBD is a closet necessity, but I am all for a relaxed, easy one as a must.  Why?  Because not every occasion is going to be dressy, cocktail attire, or business casual.  There may be times when you need a dress that you can toss on and feel comfortable in and wear all day, no matter where it may take you.

This dress is perfect to toss on and go.  You can wear it with flats or heels, dress it up or down, and feel comfortable in it all day long, no matter the situation.   I have been consistently purchasing an easy little black dress like this yearly since right after college, when I needed something cute and comfortable enough for all day at work to wear.  Black gives you more wiggle room with how dressy or casual you want to go, and anything cotton-like will feel great on.

One side note, this dress attracts everything if you don’t wash it with a dryer sheet.  I learned that the hard way in these pictures.  I had picked up Maggie before we shot these and tried to lint roll but every speck of everything ever was on me.  I washed it again and made sure to use a dryer sheet, and all was good!  Don’t dry on high though, it will shrink!

Have a fabulous day!

Nordstrom Clearance Sale

The Nordstrom Clearance Sale is on and it is SO good you guys!  I scrolled the every page to find the best goodies.  I tried to only link items left in multiple sizes, because a lot has already been snagged.  There is so much great Winter gear for now or later, as well as Spring pieces and Summer wear.  I found a ton of stuff for the kids, including jackets for next year.  I love buying for them in larger sizes when they are on sale!  If you’re shopping for baby, there is an amazing stroller bundle and tons of adorable clothing.

Have a fab day!

The Weekend Round Up

Happy Friday babes!  I always love to see the weekend, especially after a long week.  I’m so happy it’s a long weekend for the kiddos, too.  I always get so much more done when we aren’t running around to and from school, so my house projects list is adding up quickly.

I have my eye on some pieces at a bunch of stores that I am hoping will go on sale this weekend! I am going to add a sale column at the bottom that I will update with sales over the weekend, so make sure to check back!

*side note: I had to remove all the pictures from this post.  I am having a hard time putting pictures in posts.  My text keeps layering on top of them.  Does anyone know how to fix this or why it may be happening?

Beauty Empties

It’s been so long since I have done a beauty empties post, where I post my recently emptied products, give them a quick review and tell you whether I would repurchase them or not.  I get lost in these reviews on You Tube and love reading them on other blogs.  A real, honest, fast opinion about a product is one of the best kinds in my opinion.

These are all products that I used up in December and January, so they had a lot of Summer and Fall use.

1 – This is NOT the same as the regular Big Sexy Dry Shampoo.  Not one bit!  I will stick to the regular old kind for now on for sure.  This worked more as a volumizer and much less as a dry shampoo.

repurchase ~ NO

2 – I am a big fan of micellar cleansing water.  This is the only one I have tried so far, mostly because the bottle lasted forever.  It just gets in there and really cleans your face.  I wash my face then go over it all with this. It’s also an amazing eye make up remover.  My only concern with this product is some of the ingredients.  If anyone knows of a “cleaner” brand let me know!

repurchase ~ YES

3 –  If you have dry skin, then this cream is for you.  It was my first Bobbi Brown skincare product and it’s deliciously moisturizing.  A little bit goes a long way, so this jar will last year.  Make sure to add a separate SPF!

repurchase ~ YES

4 – I always want to give Elizabeth Arden products a chance, but I am almost always let down by them.  This one was no different.  It was a huge mess to apply and I didn’t see any difference in my skin after use.

repurchase ~ NO

5 –  I love a good serum, but this one did nothing for me.  It didn’t moisturize or improve my skin’s appearance after consistent use.

repurchase ~ NO

6 – This is one of, if not the best, foundation I have ever used.  A tiny bit goes a long way thanks to it’s buildable coverage.  It’s pricey, but so worth it and lasts a long time.  It starts as a liquid but finishes like a powder.  I honestly don’t even know how to describe it, but it is magical.

repurchase ~ YES

7 – I absolutely loved this under eye serum.  It is a super moisturizing oil and it is better than any other product I have tried.  It looks like it may not be sold anymore, but you can contact the rep directly to see.

repurchase ~ YES

8 – I only have a couple of drugstore mascaras that I like and trust and this is not one of them.  Too clumpy and spidery.

repurchase ~ NO

9 –  This is the best $2 you will ever spend on a beauty product.  It doesn’t stay on unless you apply a base, but for $2 you cannot beat what you get. I buy this guy over and over.

repurchase ~ YES

10 –  I wanted to love this concealer so much but I just didn’t.  The shade was so wrong (a Mac employee chose it) and the consistency was too thick and heavy for my dry skin.  I felt like applying it pulled at my eye area, which needs to speeding up in the wrinkle department. I used maybe half of this before tossing it.

repurchase ~ NO

What do you think?  Should I keep bringing these posts back?  Let me know below!

Casual Valentine’s Day Look

Jacket:  BB Dakota // Tank:  Urban Outfitters // Jeans: Seven For All Mankind // Shoes:  Kaitlyn Pan // Clutch:  GigiNY // Necklace:  Gorjana // Sunglasses:  Quay

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Happy Valentine’s Day loves!  Today I wanted to share this casual Valentine’s Day look with you all.  It is basically a transitional outfit that can be worn under your warmest coat, and on its own when the weather finally warms up!

Both of my kids were so disappointed today when they realized this isn’t the kind of holiday that school closes for.  However, they both left with bags stuffed full of Valentine’s for their classmates, so I think that will bring them enough happiness to make up for it!  Josh has to work over night so we aren’t doing anything this year, but I guess that is sort of what happens when you’re old and have been married for forever.  We took the kids to a hotel with their friends for a night this past weekend as a fun Valentine’s treat and they had the BEST time!  I always say that holidays are so much better seen through children’s eyes, and that was such a nice reminder.

Just because I am not going to go an overpriced dinner doesn’t mean I can’t live this day up.  I love all things girly, feminine and pink, so guess what I will be wearing.  Even though I am going casual all day, a pop of pink will add to any look.  I love this jacket that I scored on sale at a local boutique.  It’s still available and perfect for Spring!  I love how light it is so that it can be worn under a bulky Winter coat for our currently frigid temps.  I actually own it in another color too, but this pink is my favorite.  It’s so light that it can easily be worn with a bunch of colors, plus the fit works well over tops and dresses.

Can you spot my other Valentine in some of the pictures?  She is my shadow and I know she is always good for a bunch of kisses!

I hope you spend this day doing what you love with the people you love!

-XO

Baby Essentials: Gear You Need

This year I decided that I am going to incorporate kids and family more into A Dash of Pretty.  I had gotten several reader requests over the past year for more posts about things for mom, baby and kids, so I think it’s time I get to that! I have kids, am a mom and like to think I have an idea of what’s going on in that general area.  When I don’t, I have some really savvy friends who I ask for help!  Friends like those are one of the biggest necessities when you have a baby and kids!

I rounded up a bunch of other necessities that I think are super important to have with a new baby or when you are registering.  A lot are things I had with my kids and some are items my friends swear by and that I try to gift new mom friends.

Baby Essentials

one –  A great diaper pail is key!  No one wants to deal with diapers in a trash can and the stink of a bad pail.  This one has great reviews from a lot of my friends and is more stylish looking than any other ones I have found.

two –  Kickee Pants clothing is DIVINE and that isn’t saying enough.  I wish they made adult pj’s because the material is like butter!  They have easy snap closures, adorable designs, and literally the most amazing material.

three – We all love to hate nasal aspirators but nothing works as well as this slender one.

four – WubbaNub’s literally bring me to tears because Greyson loved his so much.  They help keep the pacifier in place and are key when you have a newborn who can easily lose one. They are easy to find in a full diaper bag and can be thrown in the washer!  Grey was super attached to his because of the cute animal and still has it (not for use, though!)

five – We LOVE our ErgoBaby carrier and got a solid two years of use with it.  There’s an insert for when they’re smaller, but it’s great for carrying baby front or back and really helps save your back!

six –  We all know a car seat is a necessity, but after lugging around the heaviest one known to man when Grey was a baby, I would steer everyone to a great, safe, lightweight one!

seven – This is the best bottle cleaner I have ever used and I have tried them ALL!  It is the best for scrubbing inside really well and works amazingly on water bottles and other kitchen gear.  I actually still buy these for sippy cups and all of Josh and my water bottles.

eight – I love wooden toys (non-toxic) and sometimes the most basic ones are the most loved and used.

nine – So many of my friends rave about the MamaRoo and I so bummed these weren’t out when Grey was a baby.  They are supposed to keep baby calm and happy and swing them to sleep (ok, I exaggerate… maybe.)  You will definitely need a swing and this would be what I would get for sure!

ten – I cannot say enough great things about these burp cloths slash bibs.  They are thick and absorbent and shaped so well to go over your shoulder and right against your neck.  They fully cover baby’s neck when used as a bib so nothing can slip through.  These are SUCH a must in my book!

eleven – I have to say, the super popular Boppy pillow was a huge letdown for nursing and feeding.  I preferred the Breast Friend, but the wrapping around the back wasn’t very comfortable.  This gives you the same structure and stability as the BF but doesn’t wrap around your back, leaving you more comfortable.  These are key if you nurse and for bottle feeding.  You are constantly holding the baby to feed and this helps give your arms and back the support they need and a much needed break.  They’re also great for supervised tummy time!

twelve – This is going to be go-to gift, I have decided.  One of my besties raves about this so much to the point she said her husband used it as a pillow when her kids outgrew it.  It can be used for sleeping, travel, playtime, etc.

thirteen – Chewbeads are such a genius invention!  I would wear the necklace and Greyson could grab on and chew.  They’re safe and cute and so easy to deal with! My kids lived for chewing on my actual necklaces, so this worked out for both of us.

You can register for or shop all of these items at The Baby Cubby.  I love that they have everything you need, free shipping on orders over $49 and amazing customer service.  I have had such awful experiences with big box baby chain stores (not naming names.  Ahem.)  A boutique shopping experience that has everything you need in one place is life changing when you’re expecting.  The store’s team is made up of parents who just get it and what we are all going through.  You are getting the safest and best merchandise offered to you at great prices (they price match, even to Amazon!!)  I personally love the curated feel of the shop, and would highly recommend this as a one-stop shop for any new parent shopping or registering!

Now I have full-on baby fever!  Luckily, I have a few friends who are expecting – and can expect where all of their gifts will be from!

Have a fabulous day!  -XO

The Weekend Round Up

Happy, happy Friday gorgeous girls!  We had the most beautiful spring-like weather this week followed up with freezing temperatures and a blizzard!  That one little taste of warmth got me so, so ready for the next season and now all I want to shop for is Spring and Summer!  I think it means its time to double down on the diet and hit the gym hard!

This weekend is going to be such a fun one and I’m hopefully going to squeeze in some mall time today to get it going.  I haven’t been to the mall since before Christmas!  Also, total side note, but HOW is Corinne still in the running on The Bachelor?!
